As opposed to eyelash extensions, which create long and curled lashes with the help of falsies, eyelash lifting is all about natural lashes. One way you can think of eyelash lifts is similar to perming your lashes, and setting the curls in place. And it’s much easier than you’d expect.
The process of eyelash lifts is fairly simple and typically consists of these 3 main steps:
- The first step is cleaning the eye area and placing a silicon rod or pad on the closed eyelid.
- Next, eyelashes are lifted while a serum is slowly applied. This serum helps break down the natural proteins and substances in the lashes – making them moldable and flexible for the upcoming curling process.
- Finally, the natural lashes are curled by applying lifting lotion and moulding them around the curling rod.
In 45 to 60 minutes, the eyelashes display a curl and lift like never before.
What is an eyelash tint
Now that we’ve covered the basics of eyelash lifts, let’s take a look at eyelash tints next.
This painless and quick beauty treatment can be done by itself, or following an eyelash lift treatment. Eyelash tints stain your natural lashes with semi-permanent solutions and vegetable-based dyes, and it’s perfect for those with fairly light lashes.
Say goodbye to multiple layers of mascara (that always seem to come off by the end of the day anyway!) because semi-permanent eyelash tints are here to save the day.
Even though tints don’t affect the actual volume or the curl of the natural lashes, the dye creates a striking dark set of lashes. And all it takes is 10 minutes while the dye is applied to your natural lashes.

How to do eyelash lift and tint safely at home
When it comes to sitting down and lifting and tinting your lashes at home, make sure you take your time and do not rush the process. Begin by working on one eye first, and then move on to the second. Prepare your necessary tools beforehand and get ready to rock it!
Step 1
The first thing you want to do is pick out a lift pad that will perfectly fit your eyelid shape. Apply small amounts of adhesive to the back of the pad, wait 30 seconds and place it on the eyelid.
Top tip: Try to get as close to the lash line as possible.
Step 2
Then, it’s time for the serum and lifting solution.
And here is where you need to be extra careful because you don’t want the solution to get into your eyes and cause irritation.
Top tip: If you are not comfortable working with chemical solutions from the get-go, you can apply small amounts in the beginning, and work your way up to cover the entire lash line.
Step 3
The final step to curling those gorgeous lashes is removing the excess lifting and perming lotion.
Use a cleanser and a clean cotton bud and lightly remove the leftover product. Again, be careful not to get the solution in your eye, so take your time removing the residue.
Top tip: You can even use the help of paper towels and lukewarm water to help you with the cleaning part of the process.
And voila – your lashes are now curled to perfection!
Tinting your lashes is a bit easier, as the semi-permanent vegetable dye is less harsh on the eyelids and eye area. However, just like the lifting solution, don’t forget to properly clean the area afterwards, so as to not get dye in the eye.
