The 6 benefits of eyebrow henna

For anyone who wants to wake up in the morning with their brows good to go, eyebrow henna might be the solution they’re searching for.

More and more beauty therapists around the world offer eyebrow henna as the ideal treatment for flawless brows, and here in New Zealand we’re no exception. This brow beauty method offers a quality alternative to eyebrow tinting, microblading and tattooing for those who regularly fill in their brows.

But what exactly is eyebrow henna? And what are its benefits?

What is eyebrow henna?

Henna is a natural dye that has long been used (we’re talking thousands of years here!) to tint hair and skin.

It’s the dye used to create beautiful and intricate designs on the hands and feet of Indian brides. And something many a teenager has played around with, flirting with their own idea of a temporary tattoo!

Eyebrow henna is slightly different. It’s used to fill, shape and define the brows. It lasts on the skin somewhere between two and 14 days. And it lasts on eyebrow hairs for up to six weeks.

6 benefits of eyebrow henna

  1. It’s a natural option

Eyebrow henna is a natural, vegan dye, which comes from a plant known as the henna tree. It doesn’t contain lead or ammonia. And no chemicals are required in its application.

This means it’s perfect for sensitive skin and anyone concerned about the origin of the beauty products they’re using.

  1. It’s long-lasting

Those brow pencil days are over! Eyebrow henna lasts on the hairs for up to six weeks. That’s almost twice as long as a regular eyebrow tint (brilliant, right?!)

What’s more, unlike standard brow tints, the colour also stays on the skin for up to two weeks (depending on skin type) giving the effect of a temporary brow tattoo.

  1. There are lots of different shades

If you’ve seen henna on the skin, you might be a little worried that eyebrow henna will turn your brows red. Rest assured that eyebrow henna is much less red in colour than its traditional counterpart.

Pigments are added to create a wide variety of shades. You can get brow henna ranging from blonde to dark brown, so there’s a shade to suit every skin tone and hair colour.

  1. It’s really effective – like, really!

Eyebrow henna fills in any gaps in the brow and is great at creating the illusion of depth and fullness. What’s more, it covers grey hairs beautifully!

The process doesn’t even take that long. Unlike the traditional henna used for body decorations, which needs to be left on the body for an hour or two, henna for eyebrow tinting has the job done in around 20 minutes.

  1. It’s a great way to trial different brow shapes

Thinking of going down the brow tattoo route? Henna brows are a great way to test the waters and try out a new shape.

If you decide you don’t like it, you can be reassured by the fact that your henna brows will be back to normal within a month or two. Tattoos are permanent and microblading lasts upwards from six months, so both are a much bigger commitment.

  1. It’s easy to apply

A therapist will sculpt the brow into the required shape using wax and tweezers. They’ll select a suitable henna shade and mix the henna powder with demineralised water. Next, they apply the paste to the brows.

A skilled technician will aim for an ombre effect; using less intense colouring at the start of the brow and more intensity through the brow arch and tail.

That might sound complex but applying eyebrow henna is actually an easy process to learn. Find a henna eyebrow course online, put in the practice hours and you’re good to go!
